Prednisolone
Indications/Uses
RA, bronchial asthma, corticosteroid-indicated conditions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 10-100 mg daily in divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Acute infections, open-angle glaucoma, osteoporosis, cardiac disease.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ systemic sclerosis; increased possibly fatal incidence of scleroderma renal crisis w/ HTN & decreased urinary output (daily dose ≥15 mg). Routinely check BP & renal function (s-creatinine). Carefully control BP when renal crisis is suspected. Contains aspartame; avoid or limit usage in patients w/ phenylketonuria. Consider referral to an ophthalmologist if patient presents w/ symptoms eg, blurred vision or other visual disturbances. Chronic use in childn may suppress growth & development. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Blurred vision. Scleroderma renal crisis. Fluid & salt retention, edema, HTN, muscle weakness, increased appetite & growth retardation.
Drug Interactions
Efficacy may be reduced by phenytoin, phenobarb & rifampicin. May reduce effects of diuretics & hypoglycaemics.
